On December 18, 2008, in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Belgrade USAID's Municipal Economic Growth Activity is organizing a local government investment promotion competition, called "Invest in Serbia 08".

Twenty-one Serbian cities and municipalities will be competing in the overall quality of their presentations at the competition, their ability to effectively communicate, the appearance of each local government's exhibit, their web presentations, and the quality of their promotional materials. The participating cities and municipalities are: Subotica, Indjija, Novi Beograd, Pecinci, Sabac, Loznica, Cacak, Uzice, Arilje, Prijepolje, Kraljevo, Zrenjanin, Pancevo, Vrsac, Smederevo, Kragujevac, Paracin, Krusevac, Prokuplje, Leskovac and Vranje.
The event will be attended by more than 300 guests, including representatives of the most important international and domestic companies, diplomatic missions, international organizations and 32 Mayors. The competition will be officially opened by the highest representatives of the Serbian Government and US Embassy.
The aim of this competition is to promote the competitiveness of local governments in attracting investments to their communities and in so doing present these municipalities and cities as favorable for future investments. "Invest in Serbia" is an opportunity for local governments and the business community to get acquainted, and provides a forum through which future cooperation can be established.
The six best local governments will win a trip to the Hanover Investment Fair or a study trip to the United States of America. A seventh award will be presented to the best exhibit based on votes cast by competition visitors.
